Basically, I hope that people don't think that some of my photographs are crazy ads. I would rather say that they are influenced by ads and TV commercials. (I watch a lot of TV commercials as an inspiration for my work.) If you watch them carefully, you may notice, that they don't "feel" like real ads. Sometimes it's the gesture, sometimes the way the models look into the camera, sometimes the set in which the models act. That doesn't fit together with ads. With this simple trick I hope to force the spectator to think about the photographs and the meaning behind.
Furthermore, I hope that people notice that the objects surrounding the models are set carefully and that they all have a special meaning within the photograph. (This is called "ikonographie" in Germany - maybe you have another word.) The model in "Yilihe Cigarettes" (Chinese woman with cigarette) is surrounded by symbols from a Chinese wedding, like in real Chinese ads, including Communism symbolized by the pictures of Mao Tse Tung in my photograph. That this perfect world in China isn't perfect in reality is symbolized by the white plastic rats and the broken wedding picture. Did you see that?
All photographs are the result of digital manipulation, done by myself in lonesome winter nights :)
Mostly the models are photographed separately with my Mamyia 67Pro II, and put into the background scene at the computer. The special effects like fire, snow, explosions are done by Wolfrik Fischer from AWK-Special Effects. Together with the hair stylists, make-up artists sometimes more than 10 people working for finally one photograph. It takes about one month from the first idea to the final print.
